Army Mule returns in Wednesday allowance co-feature

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Army Mule, absent since earning a 90 Beyer Speed Figure winning his career debut by 8 1/2 lengths last spring at Belmont Park, makes his much anticipated return and figures to be heavily favored against just five rivals in Wednesday’s co-featured fourth race to be decided under first-level allowance and optional-claiming conditions at six furlongs for a $51,000 purse.
Later on the card, a wide-open field of nine fillies and mares will go 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf under second-level optional-claiming conditions in the afternoon’s main event. Bernadiva, who finished fifth after setting the pace in the Tropical Park Oaks, may be the slight favorite over key contenders such as last-out winners Psalmody, It’s My Pleasure, and Noble Ready. The graded stakes-placed Dawn the Destroyer also will make her turf debut in the headliner.
