Arklow to get chance to make amends

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Arklow, the Grade 2 American Turf winner who finished last in the Grade 1 Belmont Derby, worked a half-mile in 51.35 seconds Friday over the Oklahoma turf course. He went in company with the maiden 3-year-old filly Time to Flirt. Arklow got his final quarter in 25.13 seconds.

Trainer Brad Cox said Arklow will be considered for the Grade 2 National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame Stakes here on Aug. 4 or the Grade 1 Secretariat at Arlington on Aug. 12.
Cox didn’t have a concrete excuse for Arklow’s effort in the Belmont Derby.
“I’m kind of hoping I just ran a short horse, going from a mile and a sixteenth to a mile and a quarter,” Cox said. “That’s the only thing I can think of.”
