Arizona creates Joyce scholarship

DRF Staff|Jan 09, 2008

The University of Arizona's Race Track Industry Program is creating a scholarship in the name of Joseph F. Joyce Jr., longtime horse racing executive and founder of the Arlington Million, the world's first $1 million Thoroughbred race.

Joyce, who died in November, was a prominent fund-raising force in the race track program's inception in 1974 and had served on its advisory council for 32 years.

The scholarship will be awarded based on academics, participation in the industry, and activities within the university's race track program.

Endowment donations can be made to the University of Arizona Foundation with the name Joseph F. Joyce Jr. in the memo line of a check mailed to: Race Track Industry Program, 845 N. Park Avenue, Suite 370, Tucson, Ariz., 85721.
