HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Like trainer Wesley Ward during the spring meet at Keeneland, Arindel Farm has become the dominant force in 2-year-old races this time of year at Gulfstream Park. Arindel will send out a pair of juvenile fillies, Dorothy and Boots, as key contenders in the first “baby” race of the local season on Thursday. They have also entered a pair, including likely favorite Strike, in the open division of the same 4 1/2-furlong maiden dash here Sunday. “We never push our 2-year-olds to work too hard, but the ones who look ready we earmark to run early,” said Arindel president Brian Cohen. “We gave five babies, all Kentucky-breds, to Brendan Walsh to take to Keeneland this year after dipping our toes in the 2-year-old racing up there for the first time last season. We’ve already run two. They both finished second behind Wesley Ward. And I guess being second to Wesley over there is like winning.” Arindel has split their Florida-bred juveniles between trainers Jorge Delgado at Gulfstream and Carlos David, who is based at Palm Meadows. Delgado will send out Boots in Thursday’s second race with David the trainer of Dorothy. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! Boots is a full sister to Bowie, who recorded one second from six career starts. “Carlos had the whole family before Dorothy. Olga and Evolution were very precocious, although I think this filly is actually more like Mist, who just missed winning a leg of the Sire series. She is leggier and probably is looking to go a little farther than 4 1/2 furlongs. “I think Boots might be the better suited of our two on Thursday for this distance. Strike is our best one down here right now. I’m really looking forward to running him Sunday.” The Arindel duo will face five rivals on Thursday, including Silver Magic, who is also trained by David. She is a homebred daughter of Magic On Tap and a half-sister to stakes winner Magical Madam. Other key contenders include Celtic Dispute, a daughter of Leinster and a half to multiple stakes-placed Vulcan, and the Victor Barboza-trained pair of Satira and Dama Du Sucre, both of whom have prepped for the race on the farm in Ocala. Cohen said he is also currently contemplating his options for his graded stakes-winning filly Mythical, who posted a career best 93 Beyer Speed Figure registering a popular victory in the six-furlong Any Limit Stakes here on March 14. Mythical won the Grade 3 Adirondack and the Tremont at Saratoga last summer during her 2-year-old campaign. “We’re ultimately pointing her to Saratoga again this year,” Cohen advised. “She ran very well up there last season and they have some nice races at six and six and a furlongs for 3-year-olds at that meet. At some point, we were thinking about even trying her on the turf, although as well as she ran here last time, we wouldn’t make the switch off that race.” Thursday’s card also includes a $65,000 entry-level allowance race restricted to Florida-breds scheduled to be run at one mile on turf. A well-matched field of nine was drawn that includes My Denysse and Sapphire Girl, who finished second and third, respectively, behind the 6-5 Nina’s Last Gift under similar conditions in a race taken off the grass and decided over the Tapeta course four weeks earlier. Tampa Bay Downs invader Its Satisfactual, one of two three-time winners in the lineup along with Celestial Express, also figures to draw plenty of mutuel support off a relatively well-graded conditioned claiming victory against open company on the turf earlier this month at Tampa Bay Downs. :: DRF Kentucky Derby Package: Save on Past Performances, Clocker Reports, Betting Strategies, and more. Miss Vyvyanne wins again Miss Vyvyanne was the number one star here last weekend after registering her fourth straight victory in Saturday’s $75,000 Golden Beach overnight handicap on turf. As usual, Miss Vyvyanne sprinted right to the lead and never looked back for Eclipse Award-winning apprentice rider Pietro Moran and trainer Gail Cox. “We brought her to run down here thinking turf, but then she ran so well on Tapeta here too.” Cox said following the Golden Beach. “I thought there was a lot of speed in the field and we had to play it off the break. But she made the lead so easily.” The win was the 11th in 23 career starts for Miss Vyvyanne, who Cox claimed for $32,000 for owners Ralph Murray and Calstar Farm, last June at Woodbine. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
