Areyoutalkingtome closes out mandatory payout Rainbow 6 with a $57 stunner

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - A victory by the 25-1 Areyoutalkingtome in the afternoon’s finale provided a shocking end to a challenging Rainbow 6 sequence that returned $31,476.56 for a 20-cent wager Saturday at Gulfstream Park. The mandatory force-out of the jackpot began with a carryover of just under $1.5 million and attracted $10,654,456 in new wagers.

The Rainbow 6 began with a nose-bobbing finish in the opening leg won by Foolish Humor over the late-striding Fast Scene. A large number of the more than 53 million new tickets purchased on Saturday were eliminated shortly thereafter when 11-1 Assertiko upset odds-on favorite Louie’s Kingdom in the eighth race.

A pair of solid favorites, Halladay (6-5) in the Sunshine Forever Stakes and Battle of Blenheim, who also closed at 6-5, returned a semblance of order to the sequence prior to Tap It to Win’s impressive victory at 5-1 in the penultimate leg.

All of that served as a prelude to the real fireworks provided by Areyoutalkingtome, who emerged from a large group of contenders inside the sixteenth pole to orchestrate an upset in the nightcap.

The force-out of the Rainbow 6 jackpot was the second held at Gulfstream Park in less than three weeks, the big payoff topping the $20,158 returned to all those who correctly selected the final six winners here on April 19.

To start the ball rolling towards another potential big payday down the road, Gulfstream Park management announced there will be a guaranteed $100,000 jackpot in the Rainbow 6 on Sunday’s card.
