Archvillain improving ahead of allowance
Archvillain is trending in the right direction with solid efforts in his last two starts going a mile on turf at Monmouth Park for trainer John Servis. If the full brother to Grade 3 winner Toews On Ice continues to progress, he could win what appears to be a wide-open second-level allowance race that has a $25,000 claiming option Saturday at Gulfstream Park West. The one-mile race for 3-year-olds and up drew eight horses entered for turf. Cheech Thunder, A B G Mostro, and Joshua’s Comprise are entered for the main track only.
Archvillain rallied to win a $35,000 conditional claiming race July 28 and came back to finish fourth in a key first-level allowance race where he only got beat by a couple of lengths, despite not having a great trip. He got shuffled back going into the first turn and then made a premature move while going three wide on the stretch turn.
The winner, Chunnell, earned a 90 Beyer Speed Figure when he won a second-level allowance race with a $25,000 claiming option on the main track at Parx Racing in his next start Oct. 14. Lipman, who finished second, romped by 5 1/2 lengths in a first-level allowance race washed off the turf Oct. 15 at Laurel.
Archvillain drew post 3 with Jilver Chamafi riding.
KEY CONTENDERS
Archvillain, by Archacharch
Last 3 Beyers: 78-76-70
◗ His last race at Monmouth was better than it looks on paper, and with a bullet fired in his latest work at Palm Meadows, he appears to be primed for another big effort.

Last 3 Beyers: 83-73-71
◗ Trained by Yvon Belsoeur, he also is heading in the right direction. The 83 Beyer he received for his runner-up finish going a mile on turf in a $10,000 starter race with a $12,5000 claiming option Sept. 20 at Gulfstream Park is the best last race-figure in the field.
◗ He will break from post 5 with Edgard Zayas retaining the mount.
With the weather forecast calling for a 100 percent chance of rain for the Miami area Saturday, it is possible the race will be moved to the main track.
If the forecast is correct, A B G Mostro becomes the one to beat.
Trained by Belsoeur and ridden by Zayas, the 3-year-old son of Jersey Town is coming off a 13 1/2-length romp going seven furlongs in a $16,000 conditional claimer that was washed off the Gulfstream Park turf course on Sept. 24.
Joshua’s Compromise has the best Beyer on a wet track, an 81, and the 7-year-old gelded son of Compromise is coming off a runner-up finish over a sloppy track at Gulfstream Park West in a $25,000 conditional claimer washed off the turf Oct. 13. With three wins from 71 starts, the Barry Rose-trainee is a bit win shy, though.
