ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Archers Bow, a great great grandson of Vice Regent, took the $131,625 Vice Regent Stakes at Woodbine Sunday. Archers Bow tracked the pace from a three-wide position in the one-mile contest, which was run over soft turf. Dashing Admiral, the 4-5 favorite, vied with Arch Hall through fractions of :24.59 and :48.74 seconds. Archers Bow assumed command at the quarter pole, and held off a late bid from 10-1 shot Chemistry Class to win by a neck. Dashing Admiral faded in the final furlong, finishing another four and a half lengths back in third in the seven-horse field of Ontario-sired 3-year-olds. Jockey Ray Sabourin said Archers Bow put forth a determined effort. "He wasn't handling the (footing) all well around the turn, but he came through in the stretch," Sabourin said. "He gets to loafing a little when he gets to the lead, but he kicked back in. He ran a game race." Archers Bow ($13.10) earned $78,975 in his first stakes triumph. Mike Wright trains him for owners Susan Jane Anstey, Michael Van Every and Joseph Parker.
