Archaggelos faces only four in Woodhaven Stakes

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Saturday’s $100,000 Woodhaven Stakes for 3-year-olds on turf drew a field of only five, led by Archaggelos, the winner of last fall’s Grade 3 Grey Stakes at Woodbine.
Archaggelos, a son of Temple City trained by Michael Dickinson, finished 11th of 12 in the Jeff Ruby Steaks at Turfway Park in March. He will be running on turf for the first time since he won a maiden race on grass last September at Laurel.
Sand Dancer, a gelding by Eskendereya, is making his fourth start of the year. He has finished second twice in first-level allowances. His lone win came in a maiden $75,000 claiming race at Belmont.
Fifty and Nine Route will be making their turf debuts in the Woodhaven. Infield Is In did not finish in the money in five turf tries last year.
In Saturday’s other stakes race, Pure Silver heads a field of eight 3-year-old fillies entered to run 6 1/2 furlongs in the $100,000 Park Avenue division of the New York Stallion Series.
At 2, Pure Silver won her first three races, including the Grade 2 Adirondack at Saratoga. She finished her season with a nose loss to Aunt Babe in December in a stallion stakes.
Aunt Babe is back in here on Saturday. Also entered were My Roxy Girl, Wegetsdamunnys, Baby Boss, Cathy Naz, Our Super Nova, and Orchid Party.
