Arcature, I Will Score may head to Belmont for stakes

ARCADIA, Calif.- Arcature and I Will Score, stakes winners at Santa Anita on Saturday, are being strongly considered for stakes at Belmont Park in early June.
Arcature ($3.40) won his first stakes in the $78,345 Singletary Stakes at a mile on turf, holding off a late threat from Tristan’s Trilogy to win by a head.
Trainer Simon Callaghan said he is considering the $200,000 Pennine Ridge Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles on turf at Belmont Park on June 4, or the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes at a mile on turf at Del Mar on July 15.
Arcature is owned by Arnold Zetcher and has won 2 of 4 starts.
I Will Score, winner of the Grade 3 Lazaro Barrera Stakes for 3-year-olds at seven furlongs, is a candidate for the $500,000 Woody Stephens Stakes at seven furlongs on June 11, part of the Belmont Stakes undercard.
I Will Score disputed the pace throughout the Laz Barrera Stakes and won by a neck over Mrazek, another potential starter in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens.
I Will Score has won 3 of 6 starts, with all the wins coming around one turn.
“He’s pretty versatile, but I think sprints will be his best thing,” trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said.
The colt races for owner and breeder Hans Poetsch.
