Arcadian had no trouble validating his monster debut win as he easily captured Sunday’s $25,000 Lost in the Fog Stakes at Turf Paradise. Also Sunday, Los Lunas showed herself the real deal with a second straight stakes win while upsetting heavy favorite Hard Seven in the $25,000 Arizona Juvenile Fillies. Arcadian, owned by the Sawyer Cattle Company and trained by Dan McFarlane, went right to the lead from his rail draw in the 6 1/2-furlong Lost in the Fog for 2-year-old males. He took some early pressure from Jamaican Memories but began to edge away going to the far turn and drew off from there to win by 6 1/2 lengths while being geared down by rider Ry Eikleberry. Jamaican Memories, the second choice in the field of eight, chased the winner from the start and held second by a nose over Montellano. Arcadian ran the distance in a strong 1:15.11 and paid $3.60 as the heavy 8-5 favorite. The winner’s purse of $15,000 pushes his bankroll to $21,600. He’s now won both starts, including a six-length romp here Nov. 28. Los Lunas, who posted a 27-1 upset in her debut when winning the Arizona Breeders Futurity here Nov. 27, backed it up in the Arizona Juvenile Fillies. Owned by Dennis Weir and trained by Sandi Gann, the 2-year-old daughter of Benton Creek dueled early with Stormy Crystal in the 6 1/2-furlong event, put that rival away turning for home, but was immediately challenged by 2-5 favorite Hard Seven. Under Jake Barton, Los Lunas would not relent, holding off the favorite to win by a neck. Hard Seven kept after the winner but just couldn’t get to her, finishing far clear of the others. Love Makor ran third in the field of seven. Los Lunas ran the distance in 1:16.85 and paid $8.40. The $15,000 winner’s share gives her a bankroll of $21,600 from two wins in two starts.
