Arc de Triomphe has maximum 16

Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris will have a maximum field of 16 after the 2011 Group 1 winners Danedream, Masked Marvel, and Meandre were supplemented to the race for approximately $136,000 on Thursday.

The supplemental entries are not among the favorites with British bookmakers. As of Thursday, So You Think, the winner of the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes last month, and Sarafina, who beat males in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint Cloud in the summer, shared the role of favorite, at 7-2, for the race over about 1 1/2 miles.

Aiden O’Brien trains So You Think, and will also start Treasure Beach, the winner of the Group 1 Irish Derby in June and the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park in August, and St. Nicholas Abbey, who was third to Sarafina in the Group 2 Prix Foy at Longchamp on Sept. 11.

The supplemental entries are longshots. Meandre, who won the Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp in July, is a 12-1 chance, slightly ahead of Masked Marvel, the winner of the English St. Leger last month at 14-1. Danedream, who won the Grosser Preis Von Baden last month, is a 20-1 shot.

Galikova, a half-sister to the three-time Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Goldikova, is listed at 6-1, with defending champion Workforce a 7-1 chance. The surface at Longchamp is listed as good to soft, with warm, dry conditions expected until race day.

Last year, Workforce won the Arc on very soft turf, with Sarafina third.
