Arapahoe stakes get purse bumps
Arapahoe Park has boosted the purse for the Gold Rush Futurity for 2-year-olds at six furlongs to $100,000, the Colorado track announced. The race’s purse for this meet had originally been set for $35,000.
The Gold Rush purse has been as high as $100,000, which helped it draw runners from a number of states, including California.
This year’s renewal will be run on the closing day card, Oct. 16. It will share a program with the Arapahoe Park Classic, which has been renamed the Butch Gleason Classic. The 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-olds and up also has had a purse bump, from $20,000 to $50,000.

The boosts to the stakes are part of an overall purse increase announced by Arapahoe. The track, which runs a mixed meet for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses, last week increased all overnight races by $2,000 each. It’s the third purse increase of the meet.
Colorado will have a yearling, horses of racing age, and breeding stock auction next Friday.
