ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The meet-leading combo of apprentice jockey Pietro Moran and trainer Kevin Attard will have Arami’s Speightster in Friday’s sixth race at Woodbine. Lasting Silence is another dropper from Ontario-sired/$40,000 company in the 6 1/2-furlong main turf sprint. Both 3-year-olds are trying grass for the first time in the $25,000 maiden claimer. Arami’s Speightster never fired in three maiden special weight outings last year. When dropping to $40,000 in his May 11 season opener, the son of Speightster set a moderate pace before fading to sixth. Victorious Maldini came back to finish first against nonwinners-of-two opposition but was disqualified to second. Deputy Daddy, who was second in the May 11 race, was a next-out maiden winner. Moran, who leads the Woodbine jockey standings, was 12 for 33 at the meet for Attard heading into this week. They have produced a positive return on investment of $2.83. Arami’s Speightster doesn’t have much turf breeding, while Lasting Silence is by the good 15 percent grass sire Silent Name. Lasting Silence was a front-running second in his second trip postward in August. After a subpar showing in September, he posted back-to-back fourths in two more Ontario-sired/$40,000 events in the fall. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing!
