Aqueduct: Your Time Is Up showing talent now that breathing problem is solved

Your Time Is Up wins an allowance
Adam Coglianese/NYRA Your Time Is Up has won three consecutive races and will start in Friday's optional-claiming feature at Oaklawn Park.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Better late than never, Your Time Is Up arrived this winter in New York.

Inhibited by breathing issues that probably kept her from reaching her full potential, Your Time Is Up has reeled off three consecutive victories entering Friday’s $54,000 featured second-level optional-claiming sprint for New York-bred fillies and mares at Aqueduct.

Trained by Rick Violette for Hibiscus Stables, Your Time Is Up won a $35,000 claimer last Dec. 4 by a neck before dominating a first-level New York-bred allowance on Jan. 4 by 9 3/4 lengths. On Feb. 28, off an eight-week layoff, Your Time Is Up won a starter allowance by a neck.

“She was a filly that couldn’t breathe,” Violette said Wednesday from Florida. “We did multiple throat surgeries and finally things have quieted down. She was probably cut out to be a very nice horse.”

Your Time Is Up is a daughter of Freud and is one of 13 starters from 14 foals out of the mare Time for a Buck. In her current three-race winning streak, Your Time Is Up displayed a variety of running styles.

“If she’s quick enough, she’ll be on the lead,” said Violette, who has Jose Ortiz named to ride from post 4. “But she can be perfectly content stalking some horses.”

Irish Whisper came off a six-month layoff to win a first-level New York-bred allowance race on Jan. 26 in front-running fashion. She came back five weeks later and finished fourth as the 9-5 favorite in a similar spot as this.

“In her last race, she slipped in behind and broke out to the right a little bit,” said Jeremiah Englehart, who trains Irish Whisper. “It cost her a little bit, but I don’t think it cost her the win. She had to go wide on a day when inside speed was kind of good.”

Englehart acknowledged that the winner of that race, Run a Dubb Dubb, also had to go wide. Run a Dubb Dubb is back in this field but this time is being offered for the optional claiming price of $30,000. She goes out for Randi Persaud, who has enjoyed a strong winter meet with 16 winners from 137 starters, placing him sixth in the trainer standings.

Pennymine, who lacked room while along the inside when finishing third behind Run a Dubb Dubb in that March 3 race, is back in this field. Dee Dee’s Comet, beaten three-quarters of a length by Your Time Is Up on Feb. 28, is also in this race.

Bird House, returning from a three-month layoff, and Pegasus Diamond round out this field.

◗ The three horses on Friday’s card that were entered with Dominic Galluscio as the listed trainer will have to scratch, according to a spokesperson from the New York Gaming Commission. Galluscio died Monday night from pancreatic cancer.

The horses are Perfect Disco (race 1), Spirited Touch (race 2), and Chloe Bear (race 7).
