This Saturday will begin the best two-week run in New York racing until next spring. Twelve stakes with total purses of more than $1.82 million will be run Saturday through Sunday, Nov. 26. The following Saturday, Dec. 2, is Cigar Mile Day, when four stakes with combined purses of $1.45 million will be held at Aqueduct. The holiday week highlights at Aqueduct include the Grade 3, $200,000 Fall Highweight Handicap on Thanksgiving Day, the Grade 3, $250,000 Comely for 3-year-old fillies Friday, and the Grade 3, $200,000 Discovery for 3-year-olds Saturday. The Fall Highweight is a six-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up. The program also includes the $150,000 Winter Memories, a turf race for 3-year-old fillies. The Comely and Discovery cards each include two other stakes. New to the schedule is the $125,000 Aqueduct Turf Sprint Championship on the Discovery undercard. The Grade 1 Cigar Mile, a $750,000 handicap for 3-year-olds and up, is supported by a pair of Grade 2, $250,000 race for 2-year-olds, the Remsen and Demoiselle, both of which will be run at 1 1/8 mile.
