Aqueduct: Lizzy Cool keeps Barbara hot

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Lizzy Cool kept trainer Bob Barbara white-hot with a front-running, three-quarter-length victory in the $80,425 Ruthless Stakes for 3-year-old fillies.

The victory was the second straight for Lizzy Cool since adding blinkers, and the ninth from 17 starters for Barbara since the inner track opened on Dec. 4.

Under Chuck Lopez, Lizzy Cool jumped out of the gate in front and quickly established a 1 1/2-length advantage while running fractions of 23.12 seconds and 46.81. She dug in through lane when even-money favorite Reign of Tara came after her. Lizzy Cool covered six furlongs in 1:10.92 over a good track and returned $19.40.

"As soon as she broke her maiden, I said that we were going for the Ruthless," Barbara said. "She's a very fast filly, and I knew she would improve after she won."

Lizzy Cool may run next in the $75,000 Dearly Precious Stakes here on Feb. 15.
