Aqueduct horses to watch: Week of Dec. 14
Uncle Sigh
Trainer: Gary Contessa
Last race: Dec. 7, 2nd
Finish: 2nd by head
Beyer: 95
Away last in the field, this first-time starting 2-year-old put in a strong wide run to challenge favored Groupthink on the lead and dueled with him all through the stretch while pulling clear of the rest, ultimately falling short in a very highly rated race.
Expression
Trainer: Charlton Baker
Last race: Dec. 6, 7th
Finish: 4th by 6 3/4
Beyer: 79
Tough go trying to circle around wide from last in a slow-paced race won wire to wire. The 4-year-old filly won two of three sprints on the inner track last year and ran deceptively well here – just needs a fair chance.
Coast of Sangria
Trainer: Michael Miceli
Last race: Dec. 5, 2nd
Finish: 4th by 4
Beyer: 62
Received unaggressive ride from a five-pound apprentice in return from a nine-month layoff and wound up jammed up behind horses as the race got away from her. She finished gamely once clear, but it was too late. She has early speed, which can be used next time.
