Aqueduct: In Her Day takes on older field as racing returns to Wednesdays
For the first time since New Year’s Day, there will be live racing at Aqueduct on a Wednesday, as the circuit returns to its traditional Wednesday-through-Sunday schedule.
First post remains 1:20 p.m. Eastern with the exception of this coming Saturday, when the Wood Memorial highlights a 12-race program that begins at 1 p.m.
The nominal feature Wednesday is race 8, a first-level allowance for New York-bred fillies at 6 1/2 furlongs.
In Her Day, the only 3-year-old in the lineup, may be a lukewarm favorite against six 4-year-old opponents following a decisive maiden victory the second time out for trainer Linda Rice.
In Her Day, a homebred daughter of Discreet Cat, earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 61 for her March 3 triumph on the inner dirt and was flattered when the filly closest behind her, Echluath, returned to graduate at odds of almost 10-1 three weeks later.
The switch back to the main track could bode well for Bileaps and Bounds, whose best performance was a front-running maiden win over the surface last fall.
Making her second start off a claim by Jeremiah Englehart, Bileaps and Bounds returns to the New York-bred ranks for the first time since Jan. 26, when wide against a strong golden-rail speed bias.
Also victimized by the bias Jan. 26 was Agilion, who as a 2-year-old ran second in two starts over the surface, including a sloppy renewal of the East View Stakes. She makes her third start back from a layoff and adds blinkers for Eddie Kenneally.
Start It Up, a winner against $12,500 restricted claimers when last on the main track Dec. 1, is a stretch threat after rallying for second at this level most recently for Luis Miranda.
Kilnockagain, beaten twice as the odds-on choice in this condition since being claimed by David Jacobson, boasts the two fastest Beyers in the race.
The richest race of the day is race 4, a $60,000 maiden special weight dash at six furlongs that drew a field of seven.
Four of the five experienced runners – All My Memories, Constantine, Cost Affective, and Vona – come off defeats when highly regarded at odds less than 3-1.
One of a pair of first-time starters is Sendario, a 4-year-old by Street Sense whose dam, Randaroo, won six graded stakes, including the Distaff and Top Flight at the Big A.
