Aqueduct: Funny Cide gets first win since 2004

Funny Cide gave his backers some anxious moments in the stretch, but came again late to win Sunday's $65,875 Kings Point Handicap by three-quarters of a length over second choice Gold and Roses.

It was the first victory for the 6-year-old Funny Cide since the Jockey Club Gold Cup in October 2004, and his first appearance in a New York-bred race since the fall of his juvenile campaign.

Funny Cide opened a lengthy lead under Richard Migliore through slow fractions in the 1 1/8-mile Kings Point, but had to re-rally after Gold and Roses poked a head in front at the eighth pole. Funny Cide prevailed by three-quarters of a length in 1:50.47 on a fast track. He paid $3.20 as the favorite in a field of four.

* In divisions of the seven-furlong New York Stallion Series for 3-year-olds, No Reason ($30) and Prince of Peace ($31.40) posted upset victories, and helped produce a pick-six payoff of $268,086 to one ticket holder on closing day.
