Live LongshotRED CONSTITUTION (#9, 12-1) not a lot to choose from today, which has the appearance of a chalk-laden card; this 2yo filly has earned a couple of competitive figures in her two turf races so will play to win at listed price and an exacta box with the favorite #5 FREUD SUNSET.- Chuck Kuehhas

Vulnerable FavoriteISN’TSHWONDERFULL (#3, 5-2) not sure she will be the actual favorite, it may be #7 CURLIN N TWIRLIN, but am certainly against her in any multi horizon or vertical bets; she had a great trip and was hard ridden on the turn before sucking up for second.- Chuck Kuehhas

Race 4 feels like a good spot to play against likely short-priced favorite CRACKERJACK JONES (#3, 9-5) who not only rode a gold rail to victory on September 18, but had the added benefit of getting away easy on the lead, despite there appearing to be plenty of pace on paper in that race. If he runs another 91, he’ll likely win, but I’ll be betting against that happening. It appears that the horses most likely to take advantage here are ITHASTOBEGEORGE (#7, 6-1), though 7/8ths could be an issue for him; and POINT TAKEN (#2, 3-1) who apparently handles every distance, and just runs every time. I’ll also include a little DAWLY (#4, 7-2) who is a little camera shy (incredibly, he’s settled for 2nd or 3rd in each of his last 10 starts) but always runs late.- Mike Beer Closer Looks >> |
Race 5 |
I’ll give a shot to SKYE SARATOGA (#8, 3-1) who I thought did a lot of work on her debut, chasing a good pace all the way and finally getting by to a short lead in the stretch, but by then she had nothing left and couldn’t hold the closers; Lasix on for this. THE LOST TIGRESS (#3, 6-1) could be a dangerous firster for Charlton Baker, as her sire Henny Hughes is among the best debut sires around, and this is a half-sister to a horse names Acadian Connection, who is no star, but had spent most of his career on turf until recently switching to dirt at Suffolk Downs and reeling off three straight wins, including a pair of romps by 22 and 14 lengths. - Mike Beer

Spot PlayDAISYSGONNAMAKEIT (#10, 7-2) figures to improve upon a third in her comeback when racing off the bench; solid allowance form and favored Golden Galaxy might regress after a barn switch. – Byron King

MARKET BLASTER (#5, 8-1) isn’t a good turf horse, but fits very well with this group on dirt, and he had an impossible trip the only time he raced this cheaply on the main track, which came two starts back on September 11th. Here are my notes for that race, via Formulator:
- tough trip 4-5 wide up w/pace, got to short lead stretch but perfect trip winner got through & got away, good 2nd I’m going to try to get alive to him in the multi’s, and will bet him straight up to win if I don’t make it there. - Mike Beer
