Aqueduct: DRF Plus handicapping report for January 24, 2014
Race 1 |
Spot PlayKAEPERNICK (#6, 6-1) didn't break well in his debut but with a clean getaway here he stands to improve, as he returns with Lasix and a sharp recent work; expecting a much better effort today. -Kenny Peck
ESSENCE OF A HERO (#7, 5-1): Raced within a few lengths of the leaders before ducking in a bit greenly through the stretch of his career debut; returns just 11 days later and drops to an easier spot where, based on fractional-time comparisons, he will be forwardly positioned. --Dave Litfin

Spot PlayStreet Thug and Lasso are the two to beat in this race, but they’re also both speed-types and are supposed to hurt each other, which I’m hoping gives UNBRIDLED LOGIC (#6, 3-1) a fair chance as he drops way down in class; in over his head last time, his most recent effort on the inner (last March) was an excellent effort trying to close into a tough set up. - Mike Beer

Vulnerable FavoriteCHAPMAN’s (#4, 5-2) last can be forgiven after missing the break, but he’s a big question mark to run his best race going a two-turn mile, and that standout figure of 97 showing three back in his pp’s was earned with the help of a loose lead riding a gold rail. - Mike Beer
