Aqueduct: DRF Plus handicapping report for February 10, 2014

DRF Staff|Feb 09, 2014

Race 1

Live Longshot

TIZALLHEART (#3, 10-1) could control the issue from the start in this paceless opener, and that would constitute a big edge, as slow fractions are likely; worth considering if anywhere near 10-1 Morning Line price. -Kenny Peck

Race 3

Spot Play

EXPLOSIVE SMILE (#3, 6-1) chased three-wide against a gold rail in debut, and was similarly out-paced off the claim last time; pedigree suggests longer is better, and he's unlikely to find a better spot than this, as his opponents have combined to compile record of 0-for-90. - Mike Beer

Race 4

Spot Play

Will all come down to price on BELLA THE BANDIT (#6, 2-1), who goes first out for popular connections, but she exits a strong win at Remington, from which 4th and 5th place finishers both returned to win their next TWO starts (5th place finisher Adrianne G went to FG to go back-to-back with Beyers of 79 & 71), and runnerup Dream Spinner went to Oaklawn (after trying a stakes race at RP) and took apart a maiden field in 13+ length win (82 Beyer). - Mike Beer

Race 5

Spot Play

Obviously, in another lifetime, RIFT (#10, 5-2) would have made short work of this field; still think he may be tough for them to handle, as his December return (from over 2-years on the sidelines) was not a bad effort at all, and he was caught on a three-wide chase against a gold rail last time. - Mike Beer

Race 6

Vulnerable Favorite

SIR MAURICE (#7, 5-2) likes to run 2nd. Further, he likes to be on the lead going long, and there is at least one other potential speed in the field, in PRIVATIZE; may have difficulty clearing that rival from his outside post. -Kenny Peck

Spot Play

MIDNIGHT MISSILE (#6, 5-1): Lightly raced with some upside, this gelding improved a few lengths when stretched out in his second start, and any further progress seems like enough to make him a threat; positive rider switch. --Dave Litfin
