Aqueduct: Dr Disco targets the Toboggan

Adam Coglianese/NYRA Dr Disco, with Mike Luzzi riding, wins the Vodka Stakes.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Dr Disco, who won Sunday’s Vodka Stakes in front-running fashion at Aqueduct, will likely be pointed to the Grade 3, $150,000 Toboggan Stakes here on Feb. 4, trainer Bruce Brown said.

Brown has wanted to try the New York-bred Dr Disco against open company and had considered the Fall Highweight, but didn’t on Thanksgiving Day over the main track, but didn’t feel his 3-year-old received enough of a weight break.

Dr Disco is 4 for 5 over the inner track.

“He really excels on the inner track, with his speed and tight turns he just hugs the rail,” Brown said.

Brown said Compliance Officer, who won the Claiming Crown Emerald, is getting a two-month vacation at Ocala Stud in Florida. Brown said that Compliance Officer will be pointed to the Kingston, which is usually run at the end of May at Belmont Park as his first target with the likelihood of trying open company again sometime next summer.

Brown and owner Thomas La Marca claimed Compliance Officer for $25,000 and they won 6 of 7 starts with him and earned $202,800. The only loss was an 11th-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Mile.

“I was glad to see the Breeders’ Cup didn’t take too much out of him,” Brown said. “We ran him back kind of quick and threw him to the wolves, and it was good to see him return to his form.”

◗ Double Mint, forwardly placed from the start under C.C. Lopez, splashed his way to a 10 3/4-length victory in the $60,000 East View Stakes for New York-bred juvenile fillies Wednesday. Motion Lounge rallied for second by a neck over Cute Cadet.
