Aqueduct
Aqueduct: Closer Looks for November 24, 2013
Race 1
Alcolite
Late runner saves every inch of ground for this trying to win for the 1st time this year off a pair of double-digit length defeats; posted his best 2013 Beyer speed figure at today's distance and the added yardage plays well into his hooves; beat Satirday Appeal earlier this season at 9F and gets well setup if Chrisandlorisposse battles that one early; the pick.
Saxophone Len
69 days away since rallying well on a wet-main track noting his best races have been on fast footing; field-best Beyer was posted on SAR dirt at 9F which was also the distance of his last win more than 15 months ago; edged by the 2-back runner-up who Beyered 76 in his next-out FL alw. win; the 3-back winner repeated in a FL-50K event with an 82 speed figure.
Ocala Jim
Stretches out to his longest-distance test ever; noting his only main-track races occurred at 6F; been best on turf but just missed in his last dirt start sprinting; 64 days away for a high-percentage fresh trainer while posting a good half-mile workout suggesting he will enjoy the main track for this; contender.
Sinistra
3 races on the AQU-Main were all double-digit length defeats; lone win was fresh off a 7-week absence but showed nothing in latest when making his 1st start in almost 5 months; the 2-back runner-up finisher Beyered 81 in a next-out BEL-15K-claiming win.
Saturday Appeal
Speedster was sent right to the front in last holding on very well from post 13 producing his best Beyer since July and a good sign that he performed the improved effort occurred on AQU dirt; without any other gate speed going here other than Chrisandlorisposse projects loose on the lead and the one to catch and beat.
Chrisandlorisposse
Has to deal with Saturday Appeal from the gate off his diploma earner gate to wire; could not last in 2 other 1-Mile races on AQU dirt while today is the longest-distance test of career; the 3-back show finisher Beyered 79 then 86 in his 2 next-out wins; view as a pace presence for part.
Mike and Rob
Has never raced on fast dirt his last main-track defeat was in the mud at today's disatnce where he flattened out late; not much off the claim in 2 races although 2-back faced the winner and runner-up finishers who Beyered 84-79 in next-out BEL-optional-claiming and AQU alw. wins.
Race 3
Prudent Investor
Have always like the claim back angle especially when you are talking about a 27% barn off the red tag; only one poor effort and he may have been overmatched in that MSW effort; if you figure he just needed the last, then you can make a case for a move forward; respect.
Stephen A
Protected in the return, but offered for sale here; bet like a good thing in the Boston win but he was asked for everything he had that day; the extended layoff is a legit concern; there are no successful dirt routers in the tree; has some things to iron out.
Street Thug
Life and death for the lone win and he really regressed last time; the 9/22 place horse took a $25K optional next out; don'tt be shocked if this guy rebounds in a big way here as he should be within striking distance from the sound of the bell.
All That
Runner caught the off going in the local try, toss it; freshened since being in tight in the eventful trip last time, he s trained steadily for this as Castellano strings along; could see him getting a nice stalk and pounce run; interesting.
The Truth and K G
Maybe he just needed the last effort when he was forced to take the overland route; the horse he beat a nose returned next out to cash in a $25K optional, then won a $103K stakes at Indiana; Grade 3 placed this year when hooked wide; the trip is well within his range; cleverly named runner looks live and Brooklyn Nets fans have a vehicle.
Beeliner
Even after the decent second on 10/9, fans didn't exactly embrace him at 38-1 and they were right on the money; he only beat 6 in the win on the inner but gets a more experienced pilot today and look for pilot to send hard and try to steal it; don't ignore.
Race 4
National Buck
Draws the fence for his first try on the local sod after being freshened off an improved try first time at the level at Belmont; gelding goes for a barn that does well off this type of break and the inside draw should help him sit a good spot in a field that doesn't look to feature a whole bunch of pace; can get in the mix.
Fiddlers Chico
First part of the coupling offered little against a notch better over the local sod a few weeks back; he hasn't shown much early foot and the move inside could bury him quickly, leaving him with a lot to do late; minor award at best.
Moravitz
Didn't fire his best shot when stretched back out in his local return but his prior efforts across town were solid; maybe he's got a move forward in him with that one behind him, but he'll need to find a way to get more involved early; consider.
Sunnyinseabrook
Moves back to the green after a weak try at the level over the local main track; he's yet to hit the board in 5 turf spins and his most recent start over the stuff, though troubled, didn't do much to suggest he'll jump forward in his return to the footing; have to pass on him here.
Omos Journey
He hasn't hit the board in 10 career spins, 8 of them on the green, and his most recent try over the local lawn was poor; gelding does own some back numbers that fit in here, but he's had plenty of chances so it's tough to get excited about his prospects of getting involved here.
Shortcoming
Beaten last out chalk held second money while in with a weak bunch across the river a few weeks back, earning a number that puts him in the mix here; neither local effort was much, but he is in good form and that's often key in cheap maiden heats such as this one.
Angel de Amour
Gets Rosario after blowing midstretch leads in each of his last 2 starts; he's hit the board in each of his 6 turf starts, though, and his last 2 pace efforts earned numbers that are the best of the bunch; beaten last out chalk will take money again, but they'll have to run him down to win this.
Fiddlers Tango
Barn's other half stretches back out after again finishing off the board sprinting across town; he's yet to hit the board in 9 career turf tries and there's not much to suggest things will go much better for him today.
Gridiron Great
Sophomore hasn't been as good since returning from break as he was earlier in the year but he did respond to the new blinkers 2 starts back; barn has been white hot here and they'll drop this guy in company off the troubled wide run in his Belmont finale; expecting he'll find himself in a good tracking spot on the stretchout and he did prove he could handle the route earlier in the year; main danger.
McIlroy
Gelding was again given some time after returning from nearly 7 months on the shelf with a sharp placing on the Belmont lawn; his turf efforts in Florida last winter were all competitive with what it would likely take to win this and the barn does an excellent job bringing them back ready; his pilot sticks and that's a plus for a runner whose best effort makes him dangerous, but the gaps in his worktab raise some concern.
Fastinov
Outside drawn runner wired a similar bunch at Belmont in his 12th career start but saw his number taken down before tracking the pace in a local 11 panel event with winners; maybe he has some bottom for the turn back to this trip and the return to maiden competition has to help, but he will start from a tough spot.
Prince Curlin
MTO has been little short of terrible in his 8 race career and his last, at 102-1, was the closest he's finished to the winner; can't make any type of case for this guy getting involved in the outcome regardless of price.
Race 5
Get Gorgeous
The 139-day layoff did not help the cause in last as she posted her lowest Beyer speed figure since the September, 2011, BEL-6F career debut on a wet-main track; both wins were when forwardly placed but did not show any gate speed in last and has Quiet Sunshine and Princess Mara to fend off early; a tough call.
Typhoon Teri
The only race of her career traveling today's distance was a career-low Beyer on the turf; exits her best speed figure since the SAR-6F maiden breaker which was a good sign racing on AQU Main for the 1st time since March; latest gave the impression that added yardage would be right up her alley but still has something to prove on the stretchout.
Quiet Sunshine
Claimed off a 6%-win trainer so should improve for the new barn coming off a career-low Beyer; faded to the 2-back runner-up finisher who posted a 69 speed figure in a next-out AQU-optional-claiming victory; last win was at longer than this but stamina is a huge issue off recent form; view as a pace presence for part with Princess Mara looming as the major danger up top.
Guyana Princess
Last win was September, 2012, in a BEL-6.5F dirt race in a 15K claimer rallying from 7th and 15 lengths back; has not won at longer than 6.5F during career while her best Beyer was posted in the mud; she finished 3rd three races ago on a wet-race track when landing behind Quiet Sunshine who is also here.
Run a Dubb Dubb
Is 1-for-4 in races at 1 Mile during career finishing 2nd the last time stretched out in April; tired in latest over the track but it was a great sign that it was her best Beyer since June; recent efforts did not give the impression that added yardage would be the answer but looms as a major-pace presence for this with Quiet Sunshine and Princess Mara likely pressing from the bell.
Warmhearted Sandy
Last race over the track was April, 2012, in a 10K claimer where she finished a rallying 4th at 6.5F; gets in with her lightest-weight assignment since July, 2012; defeated the 2-back runner-up who Beyered 59 in a next-out FL-$4,500 claiming win; defeated the 3-back runner-up who Beyered 53 in a next-out FL-$4,500-claiming win; had a strong season at FL but enters with a declining-Beyer pattern and has plenty to prove in the majors.
Princess Mara
Just one race over the track was a 1-length loss at today's distance; claimed off a turf win then showed nothing 1st off the purchase; wants the front end but has to outbreak Quiet Sunshine and Run a Dubb Dubb from the bell; the 3-back runner-up finisher Beyered 76 in her next-out BEL-optional-claiming win.
Chloe Bear
Winless on dirt but her last-main track start was a solid show finish when stalking the whole trip but unable to find the late punch in the lane; reunites with the rider of her last-main-track attempt; lone win was at longer on the green; exits her lowest Beyer since June when middle moving; 32 days since latest loss but figures to be closing into a hot pace.
Maxana
Career-best Beyer at 6F which was also the distance of her last victory; beat 1 runner home in her last-route race and is 0-for-7 since claimed off the BEL-6F maiden breaker; was screaming out for more yaradge in last and gets it here trying to snap a 4-0-0-0 AQU-Main streak.>
Race 7
Noon Time Shower
Major cutback in distance today for this beaten favorite; on the plus side is the fact that 2 of her losses were in added money events and the most recent half-mile breeze is superior; consider if inside paths have proven favorable on the card.
Lemme Rock
After a solid first run at Belmont, she made the difficult leap to the special weight class and suffered through a wide trip; her sire won the G1 Carter and 480K while the dam won 1 of 9 and 43: winning siblings include 62K earner Stoneridge.
It's Easy
Newcomer hails from multiple G2 victor Repent who captured 1.25 million and whose offspring have won 21 out of 330 debuts; the dam never raced; among the winning siblings is 39K earner Big Apple Alke; respect the connections.
See Me Sometime
Beginner was sired by 75K winner Stanislavsky whose progeny have scored in 3 of 34 initial attempts; the dam won 2 of 22 and 71K; there are no winning siblings to mention; fair pair of blowouts this month.
Storied Lady
Descendants of Read the Footnotes, a multiple G2 winner who notched 450K, have won their debut at a rate of 10 percent; the dam won 1 of 8 and 45K; winning siblings include 265K earner Love Abroad.
Maybry's Fortune
Exits the same event as Lemme Rock where she was caught extremely wide; the grey turned in a solid placing the time before while favored but was aided by a soft half-mile fraction in that event; difficult call today.
Keep Right
Her sire won multiple G1 stakes and garnered 5.15 million overall; descendants of Street Cry are 27 for 320 as far as winning their first test; the dam won 2 of 7 and 93K; winning siblings include 36K earner Current Aquasition.
Truericepudding
A long series of half-mile drills to consider; her sire won the Kentucky Derby and 1.99 million; progeny of Fusaichi Pegasus have won 63 out of 583 debuts; the dam won 9 of 26 and 344K; sib to 34K earner Playon Player.
Goldstandardlady
Sired by Posse, a G2 victor who captured 662K (his offspring are nearly 10 percent winners first time out); the mom won 5 of 20 and 120K; among the winning siblings is 147K earner Cardiac Rehab.
Underthemoonlight
A remote, but clear-cut, second in her maiden voyage 3 weeks ago; her sire won a G1 and 2.19 million while the dam involved was unraced; this is her only foal to make it to the starting gate; sharp, recent training track breeze adds to the appeal.
Race 8
Mr Speaker
Educated upstate, a tad short two back but visually impressive in last; solid blood on the bottom side as day was Grade 2 placed and banked over $100K; backers can point to the lone kin that banked nearly $150K; top last race Beyer in the resume; look out.
Cabo Cat
Clever win sprinting but only a brief threat in the stakes debut; homebred was agile enough to overcome the traffic jam in the debut but must prove he can go this far; needs a rebound race.
Lulu Le' Mon
Don't be too harsh about last and he may have hated the yielding course; he gets some class from the dam who took a stakes, handled grass and banked nearly $300K; the expectations have to be pretty high on this guy as he is kin to Grade 1 winner and millionaire Boisterous; backers have to hope to get an honest pace and clear sailing.
Racetrack Romance
Took a shot in the stakes and why not?; connections dipped in for the maiden claimer and it was a free run; pace was a bit quicker in last and he could not keep up; note gap in published moves till Halloween; must hurry.
Mark My Way
Bet like a good thing in the debut, like the middle move he made to get to the lead and then he just kept going; gelding sure was not intimidated by the big field in last; slight improvement and he should give a good account of himself.
Innovation Economy
You don't see many Chad Brown students run away and hide at 20-1; that s never easy to do especially for a young horse; nothing but winners in the tree including Grade 3 winner and near $300K earner Seaspeak; he's kept his legs moving since the upset; repeat well within the scope.
Request
Colt has trained solidly since showing he was game to kick off the career; patiently placed, he may have won the debut without adoring the good course; cut out to run as a $400K purchase; not impossible task.
Frogman Mel
Nothing like a quick turn on the investment to get things rolling back at the barn; forced to steady in Maryland but gelding was still coming late; would lean toward others for a key top horse.
Otoy
Youngster has more speed than he just flashed; hung wide two back, wraps added for last when probably overmatched; try to get a good look at him on the track before taking a swing.
Master Lightning
He could have been intimidated by the rail in the opener; on the muscle in the maiden breaker but colt found it much tougher in Graded company; the quality is there from the dam who banked nearly $325K; backers can point to the top kin for quality that won 11 times and earned nearly $250K; will at least push the pace if race comes off the grass.
Captain Toews
Despite being pinballed in the opener, runner still prevailed in game style; hung wide first time vs. winners but he was never in the hunt last time; blowout on the 15th could have him on his toes but he may need Empire-breds to shine; looking elsewhere for a key top horse.
Race 9
Peggy Virginia
Miss had the excuse of slop in the other dirt attempt; toss the marred event two back but she seemed in a good spot in last and just never got rolling; considering the cut back, miss could find herself behind the 8 ball turning for home.
Sky Lassie
Shows for a tag but maybe she belonged here all the time as an $18K purchase; the 9/22 winner repeated in a $14K optional with a 62 Beyer; backers can point to the fact that all 3 siblings won including a near $130K earner; if she can run at all, she figures to show it here.
My Lucky Lieu
Soph has more speed than she just flashed; more experienced pilot here and note Maragh is 21% for this barn in the last year or so; she still has a right to grow into her skin with two siblings banking 6 figures including over $225K earner Aly's Colors; expect much better result.
Lady C Note
Wraps in all 3, would be careful before speculating with a C note here; dam was 0 for 4; both siblings won multiple times; top kin Missile took 2 of 18, banked over $50K; looking elsewhere for a key top horse.
Candy's Luck
Miss has some semblance of speed but there are some stamina issues; could see her pushing the issue, not sure she will be around when the smoke clears.
Gingee
Not thrilled with the repeated beats vs. cheaper foes; needs a total reversal of fortune to make an impact here.
Lovely Athena
Utopia 6 for 120 with debuters; sire took 2 Group 1s in Japan at 2, banked nearly $5 million; 2 for 10 dam won at 2, banked nearly $75K; all 4 siblings won; one cashed at 2; top earner Judge Well took 5 of 35, banked over $100K; published moves on the light side; lean toward watching one.
Eva Lil
After 23 defeats, the upside is just very hard to identify; mare has the two races to build on but she just has been crushed too many times to find a positive thought.
Light Weight
Youngster seemed on the verge after the September finale but she has gone the other way since; Lopez fits this runner as she has natural speed; just may get brave if she can establish a lonely lead.
J Rose Gal
Shades off as they were for her career to Beyer in the June swoon; 4th finisher in last took a maiden $16K seller and the 6th finisher took a maiden $4500 Finger Lakes contest; capable barn due to get rolling.
Signora Sofia
Yet to run in the money and that's a hard fact to just get over; she has to be considered a disappointment as kin to near $200K earner Piazza Di Spagna; she only beat one to the wire the last time this pilot was aloft.
Tassinaia
She's fresh and dangerous; pretty decent move on the 17th and miss could be focused with the blinks this time; place horse in last took a MSW next out and the 6th finisher won at this very level by over 8 with a 62 Beyer; there is still hope for this gal as kin Tommasi was stakes placed at 7 and banked over $300K; this miss looks live.
