Aqueduct cancels Saturday card in advance of anticipated storm
Due to a forecast calling for heavy rain and strong winds, Saturday’s 10-race Aqueduct card has been canceled, the New York Racing Association announced Friday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, there is chance for between one and two inches of rain in the New York metropolitan area throughout Saturday. Winds are forecast to be 18 to 21 miles per hour with gusts as high as 34 miles per hour.
Aqueduct will be open for simulcasting on Saturday.
The two turf stakes scheduled for Saturday, the Grade 3, $150,000 Noble Damsel and the $125,000 Ashley T. Cole, will be rescheduled for Friday. Both races are open to original nominees and potential supplements and will be re-drawn on Sunday.
Live racing is scheduled to resume Sunday with a nine-race card beginning at 1:05 p.m. The card is scheduled to include a pair of $125,000 stakes, the Bertram F. Bongard and Joseph A. Gimma Stakes for New York bred juveniles and juvenile fillies, respectively.
Also, there will be a pick six carryover of $62,293 into Sunday’s card after the wager was not hit on Friday. The pick six will be on races 4 through 9.
