Aqueduct cancels Friday card due to expected cold temperatures

With bitterly cold temperatures in the forecast, Aqueduct’s Friday card has been canceled, the New York Racing Association announced Thursday.

It is the ninth full card to be canceled and 10th cancellation overall of the winter meet.

According to Weather.com, temperatures Friday are not expected to reach 20 degrees, and with winds blowing in at 20 to 30 miles per hour, wind chill is expected to be in the low single digits.

Racing is expected to resume Saturday with a nine-race card that begins at 12:45 p.m. However, Sunday’s card is jeopardy as temperatures are forecast to be even colder than Friday. Aqueduct also is slated to be open Monday, Presidents Day.

Looking ahead to Sunday and Monday, NYRA said it will “closely monitor weather forecasts and will provide updates should further action be necessary for any of these dates.”

Aqueduct and the Belmont Cafe were to be open for simulcasting Friday.
