The Sunland Park-based apprentice jockey Erick Medellin is scheduled to join the Oaklawn Park riding colony in early February, according to his agent, Dominic Rivera. Bill Castle will have Medellin’s book at Oaklawn, said Rivera. Medellin is the 20-year-old son of jockey Alejandro Medellin. Overall, he’s won 13 races from 178 starts for mount earnings of $265,062. Medellin registered his biggest win earlier this month, with Count Them Again in the $65,000 Bold Ego Stakes at Sunland Park. Rivera said Medellin would ride at Sunland through Feb. 1, then travel to Oaklawn. He is scheduled to return to New Mexico for the $100,000 La Coneja Stakes aboard Count Them Again on Feb. 6. Rivera said Medellin would have a seven-pound allowance starting out at Oaklawn versus the five he gets at Sunland.
