Apprentice Kennedy nears return

Steve Andersen|Apr 08, 2016

ARCADIA, Calif. – Apprentice jockey Ty Kennedy is nearing a return to riding after taking three months off to work on controlling his weight.

Kennedy has been at Santa Anita for more than a week exercising horses and has targeted Thursday’s start of the Los Alamitos spring meeting for his comeback.

“I think it will be a good time to build up the clientele,” he said.

Kennedy, 21, spent a few months in Oklahoma earlier this year, exercising horses at Will Rogers Downs. He said he has improved his diet, which has allowed him to maintain a lower weight. Kennedy has won 33 Thoroughbred races, but has not ridden since Jan. 10 at Santa Anita. His last win was at Santa Anita on Jan. 3.
