Apprentice Abdul Alsagoor gets first victory
ARCADIA, Calif. – Apprentice jockey Abdul Alsagoor won for the first time in Sunday’s second race at Santa Anita. The win came in his 18th mount.
A native of Saudi Arabia, Alsagoor, 21, began riding in November and has been based in Southern California since last year when he began exercising horses.

Sunday, Alsagoor won a $50,000 claimer for maidens at a mile aboard Oneparticulrharbor, who held off a late run from 7-5 Klimtoglory to win by a neck. Alsagoor, who claims 10 pounds, described the win as “amazing.”
Oneparticulrharbor paid $8.40.
Sunday’s race was Alsagoor’s fifth mount of the winter-spring meeting.
◗ Jockeys Kyle Frey and John Velazquez have withdrawn appeals of suspensions issued in the last month and will miss three days of racing each at Santa Anita in February. Frey is suspended Feb. 25-27 for an incident in the fourth race at Los Alamitos on Dec. 12 when he was disqualified from first to fifth aboard Jamming Eddy for causing interference. Velazquez is suspended Feb. 12-13 and Feb. 18 for an incident in the first race at Santa Anita on Jan. 14, when he was disqualified from first to second aboard Con On the Run for causing interference.
