SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The powerful Godolphin-Charlie Appleby team is likely to send out both Measured Time and Silver Knott, recent stakes winners at Saratoga, in the Grade 1, $750,000 Sword Dancer Stakes on Aug. 24.
On Friday, the pair each put in a workout over the Oklahoma turf course. Measured Time, winner of the Grade 1 Manhattan Stakes on June 8, went a half-mile in 50.29 seconds, according to Daily Racing Form, outfinishing workmate Bold Act while getting his final quarter in 24.07 seconds.
“I thought his work was really nice. He’s got lovely, long action and cruising speed and looked quite well,” said Chris Connett, assistant to Appleby. “So, very happy with him.”
Silver Knott, who has won three races this year in the United States at three different tracks, worked a half-mile in 52 seconds, finishing three lengths clear of Musical Act. His most recent victory came in the Grade 2 Bowling Green, which he won by 2 1/2 lengths here on July 28.
“He’s been showing all the signs that he’s good to go,” Connett said. “Today was his first timed work since his run. We’re very happy with him thus far.”
There are only six other nominations to the Sword Dancer: Emmanuel, Far Bridge, Grand Sonata, Pioneering Spirit, Soldier Rising, and Tawny Port.
