Apollitical Patty dominates Los Alamitos Oaks
Apollitical Patty won Saturday’s $427,500 Los Alamitos Oaks in a dominant performance to confirm her position as California’s leading 3-year-old Quarter Horse.
Apollitical Patty ($2.60) won the 400-yard race for 3-year-old fillies by two lengths over stablemate Aint She Tempting, finishing in 19.47 seconds.
Trained by Monty Arrossa for Julianna Hawn Holt, Apollitical Patty was the fastest qualifier for the Los Alamitos Oaks, winning a division of the time trials on March 6 in 19.55 seconds.
In Sunday’s final, Apollitical Patty started from the outside post in a field of 10. Ridden by Armando Cervantes, Apollitical Patty broke sharply to the inside in the first few strides, but was rapidly clear of her nine rivals, leading by 1 1/2 lengths after 100 yards.

Aint She Tempting (7-1) finished a half-length in front of Terrific Temper, the 9-2 second choice. The first three finishers were trial-race winners on March 6.
Aint She Tempting was second in the $1.1 million Golden State Million Futurity in November. Terrific Temper was second in the $1.1 million Ed Burke Million Futurity last June and a troubled ninth behind Apollitical Patty in the $1.97 million Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity in December.
Monty Arrossa trains Apollitical Patty and Aint She Tempting. Both fillies race for Holt of Texas, whose husband, Peter, owns the Santa Antonio Spurs. Holt bought Apollitical Patty privately in January.
Apollitical Patty, by Apollitical Blood, has won 8 of 10 starts and has earned $1,077.042. The win in the Los Alamitos Oaks was worth $179,550 and put her past the seven-figure mark in earnings.
Apollitical Patty’s 2020 season was highlighted by the win in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity against males in December. Apollitical Patty won that 400-yard race by a half-length over Flash Bak, who won the Los Alamitos Winter Derby in February, a race in which Apollitical Patty was not entered.
