Apocalyptical Jess, Pilot Points Moon top qualifiers for All American Futurity

The field for the Grade 1, $3 million All American Futurity for Quarter Horses next month at Ruidoso Downs has been determined after 32 trials were contested at the New Mexico track Friday and Saturday. Apocalyptical Jess ($6.40) was the fastest qualifier on Day 1 and Pilot Points Moon ($13.20) set the standard on Day 2.
The finale will be run on Sept. 3. Horses with the five fastest times Friday and the five fastest times Saturday earned the 10 available spots in the gate for the All American.
Apocalyptical Jess won the second of 16 trials conducted Friday, covering 440 yards on a fast track in 21.34 seconds. He won wire-to-wire by a margin of 3 1/4 lengths. Ricky Ramirez was aboard for trainer Blane Wood. The other qualifiers from Friday, according to a press release from Ruidoso, were Tools in the Sky (21.47); Im Jess Special V (21.52); Wokatee On Fire (21.52); and Lynnder 16 (21.53).
Pilot Points Moon won his 440-yard trial in 21.52 seconds Saturday, by 1 1/2 lengths on a fast track. Adrian Ramos was aboard for Grant Farms and trainer Wes Giles. The other qualifiers from Saturday were Rainbow Futurity winner Mm Fourinthemorning, a 2 1/4-length trial winner in 21.64 seconds; Badhabit Jess (21.66); No Mires a La Luna (21.68); and Rustys Miracle (21.69).
Ruidoso puts on more trials Sunday, but for the Grade 1, $1.2 million All American Derby for Quarter Horses on Sept. 2. There are 11 trials, and the card drew last year’s All American Futurity winner, Fly Baby Fly.
