Although he has won six stakes, Anyportinastorm has something to prove in the $100,000 All American Stakes on Monday at Golden Gate Fields. Anyportinastorm tries to record his first victory ever around two turns in the one-mile race for 3-year-olds and up over the Tapeta. The last time the 8-year-old City Zip horse went a mile, he lost a photo after setting the pace as the odds-on favorite in the 2019 Longacres Mile. “We think he can get the distance and he loves the track up there,” said trainer Peter Miller. :: Get Daily Racing Form Past Performances - the exclusive home of Beyer Speed Figures Anyportinastorm has raced seven times at Golden Gate Fields, with five wins and two thirds. “He’s a cool horse,” Miller said. “He runs every time and gives his all. He’s doing well, and we’re excited about the All American.” Owner Peter Redekop wants to take another shot at the Longacres Mile, the most prestigious stakes run at Emerald Downs, and Miller wants the horse to have run in a mile race before that race in August. Anyportinastorm has raced once this year, scoring a decisive victory in the six-furlong Lost in the Fog at Golden Gate five weeks ago. Trainer Quinn Howey has entered Navy Armed Guard and Indian Peak in the All American. Each is coming off a win. Navy Armed Guard, a 6-year-old gelding by Midshipman, will be making only his second start on the Tapeta surface. He set the track record for a mile of 1:35.69 in an allowance race last September. Navy Armed Guard sandwiched a third-place finish in the Rolling Green and second-place finish in the Joseph Grace, both on turf, around that record-setting performance. The gelding was an odds-on winner at 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Turf Paradise in his last start. “He seems to like synthetic,” said Howey, “but we just haven’t been able to get him another race on the main track here.” Indian Peak, a 4-year-old Comic Strip colt, won the Snow Chief at Santa Anita and was third in the El Camino Real Derby here last year. He’s coming off a victory in a mile allowance race here. “I like how he finished strong,” said Howey. “He looked like he enjoyed himself in the lane.” Three other runners were also entered, including the recently claimed Harmon, who won a one-mile allowance on the Tapeta April 3 in his first start for new trainer Monty Meier. Meier claimed him for $32,000 in March. “After we ran him and won that second allowance level, this looked like the next spot for him,” said Meier. “We claimed him because he really likes the Tapeta surface.” Rounding out the field are Zestful, second in the Grade 3 Tokyo City at Santa Anita April 18, and Cupid’s Claws, winner of last year’s Tokyo City who makes his 2021 debut.
