Anyportinastorm takes them all the way in Governor's Stakes
Anyportinastorm was a sharp winner of the $50,000 Governor’s Stakes at Emerald Downs Sunday. He paid $2.40 for his easy win over his stablemate Oh Marvelous Me in the six-furlong dash for 3-year-olds and up.
Breaking alertly from post two with Juan Hernandez aboard, he was inside of Cody’s Choice while the pair dueled thorough a 21.55-second first quarter-mile. He was a length in front after a half in 43.74 seconds, and was in hand while drawing off in the stretch in an impressive performance. Oh Marvelous Me rallied to finish second. Longshot Grinder Sparksaglo came from a stalking position to finish a head behind Oh Marvelous Me.
The final time was 1:07.54
“I asked him coming out of the gate and he responded,” said Hernandez. “He was inside the other speed but he was relaxed the whole time.”
The Florida-bred son of City Zip is trained by Blaine Wright and owned by Peter Redekop.
With the dominating performance Anyportinastorm left little doubt he is the local favorite for the Grade 3, $200,000 Longacres Mile on Aug. 11.
“We’re keeping him here with the goal being the Mile,” said Wright. “We’ll run him in the next sprint stakes, skip the Rainier, and if he’s sound he’ll be a fresh horse for the Mile. “
