By any measure, Don't Get Khozy has her rivals over a barrel

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – When it comes to handicapping Saturday’s $47,000 main event at Gulfstream Park, one can check almost all the pertinent boxes for logical favorite Don’t Get Khozy. The one-mile allowance test for older fillies and mares is the 10th of 11 races on a card that kicks off at 1 p.m.

Don’t Get Khozy has earned a Beyer Figure of 82 in her last three races, far higher than any of her rivals have ever earned. Those Beyers certainly earn her a major thumbs up on the consistency scale as well.

When it comes to classing up against her six rivals, Don’t Get Khozy is not only stakes-placed, she’s won more races than anyone else in the field with seven. None of her opponents have won more than four races. She’s banked $232,014 during her career, $141,584 of which came during her 3-year-old campaign in 2020. Nobody else in the lineup has earned more than $122,000.

Don’t Get Khozy also has held her form remarkably well over the past six months, having won twice and finished third or better in her last seven starts, dating to Oct. 4. She exits a solid second-place effort under conditions similar to Saturday’s headliner on March 13. She finished a half-length behind the red-hot Funnybet after a wide trip. Funnybet was registering her fourth win in her last five starts as the 4-5 favorite.

The late-striding Don’t Get Khozy will break from the rail under defending spring-summer meet champion Edgard Zayas, with about the only obstacle to her chances of winning being the relative lack of pace in the lineup. She is one of two horses entered in the headliner by trainer Antonio Sano, along with outsider Addilyn.

Subsidiary and Our Fantasy, who both also enter the race in good form, could have the best chance of springing the upset. Subsidiary owns a win and two seconds in her last three starts, showing big improvement since being claimed for a bargain $6,250 by trainer Fernando Noda two months earlier.

Our Fantasy has won her last three starts on dirt, most recently taking the measure of statebred allowance types, also at a mile, here Feb. 12. Our Fantasy is trained by Kathleen O’Connell.

Completing the field are Judy’s Way, who has finished third in her last three starts, Global Ambition, and longshot Puppet Master.

◗ The first 2-year-old races of the year are in the condition book for next week. Both are carded at 4 1/2 furlongs with a purse of $65,000 that includes as much as $25,000 in bonuses for Florida-breds. Fillies run on Thursday, with an open maiden race scheduled for Friday. No Lasix is permitted to be administered to 2-year-olds here within 24 hours of post time.
