The Grade 3, $100,000 Longacres Mile at Emerald Downs Thursday evening was a coming out party for Anothertwistafate, who paid $4.40 for his impressive win in his first start as a 4-year-old.

Making his first start since he finished 10th in the 2019 Preakness, Anothertwistafate came from a stalking positon to win by four lengths over Five Star General.

With Juan Gutierrez riding, Anothertwistfate stalked Papa’s Golden Boy, who posted a half-mile time of 45.21 seconds. He started to move into serious contention after six furlongs, which went in 1:08.74, took over the lead at the quarter pole and drew off to win with authority. Five Star General, third early, finished well but was never a real threat to the winner. The Press rallied late to finish third.

The final time was 1:34:10.

The Kentucky-bred colt by Scat Daddy is trained by Blaine Wright and races for Peter Redekop. It was the first win in Longacres Mile for Wright and Redekop, and third for Gutierrez.

“The first thing is to congratulate Mr. Peter Redekop and my entire crew here and at Golden Gate,” said Wright. “The race worked out just the way we scripted it this morning. Juan did a great job. When we couldn’t bring our rider from California there was no hesitation to ride Juan. He rode his 2,000th winner this year and is a great speed rider on this track. He fits the horse perfectly.”

In the supporting feature, Alittlelesstalk showed why she was voted the champion 3-year-old filly in Washington last year with a convincing victory in the $40,000 Emerald Distaff. She paid $9 for her 2 ½- length victory over Paddy’s Secret in the 1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares.

Alittlelesstalk stalked even-money favorite Killarney Lass though a quick half-mile of 45.66 seconds. She was within a length at the six-furlong mark, started to wear down Killarney Lass midstretch, and after making the lead at the sixteenth pole drew off late. Paddy’s Secret rallied late to edge Killarney Lass for the runner-up spot by a head.

Alittlesstalk was also ridden by Gutierrez.

The final time was 1:42.41.

By Demon Warlock out of Trainingat the Bar, Alittlelesstalk is trained by Roddina Barrett. She races for Barrett, Warlock #1, and Kelly Dougan.
