Another battle between Get a Notion and Forest Mouse

Get a Notion will attempt to turn the tables on stablemate Forest Mouse on Saturday in the $65,000 Winsham Lad Handicap at Sunland Park. The horses, trained by Henry Dominguez, have been frequent rivals in their recent starts in New Mexico.

The Winsham Lad is for 4-year-olds and up at a mile; a field of eight was entered. The group includes Ol Winedrinker Who, now pushing $800,000 in career earnings, and Looks to Spare, who in November 2015 was third in the Grade 1 Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs.

◗ He has faced Forest Mouse twice in his last four starts dating to the $50,000 Premiere Cup Handicap on Sept. 11 at Zia. Forest Mouse won that race by a neck over Get a Notion. They met again in their most recent out, an optional $20,000 claiming race at a mile Dec. 30 at Sunland, with Get a Notion finishing third to Forest Mouse.

◗ He is the 124-pound highweight for the Winsham Lad on the heels of his win in the local prep Dec. 30. Forest Mouse was prominent throughout, winning by two lengths to earn this field’s best last-race Beyer Speed Figure. It was the 22nd career win for Forest Mouse, who has earned $816,687.

◗ Forest Mouse boasts a 6-for-11 record at Sunland.

◗ Ry Eikleberry has the mount from post 5.

Looks to Spare, by Pollard’s Vision
Last 3 Beyers: 69-76-78

◗ He ran arguably the best race of his career in the 2015 Clark, rallying for third behind Effinex. Looks to Spare was beaten a length and earned his best Beyer to date, a 102.

◗ Looks to Spare made his New Mexico debut Nov. 15 and won an optional $10,000 claiming race over 6 1/2 furlongs at Zia. He then stretched out to a mile at the same level and won again at Zia.
