Another Audible contnues dominance

Bill Hodtwalker|May 23, 2007

Another Audible continued her dominance last Saturday with an 8 1/2-length win over males in the $15,000 Speed Stakes.

The 4-year-old daughter of Menifee has been all but unstoppable since making her career debut at Fonner Park on Feb. 9. She won that half-mile test by 12 lengths in a time of 44.80 seconds, in the shadow of the track record of 44 seconds set by Leaping Plum. She tasted defeat in her next start against allowance company, losing by six lengths to Salty Attraction, who would become a stakes winner in the following weeks.

Since then, she has rattled off three straight wins at Fonner, the last coming against optional claiming company where she was entered under the lifetime condition allowance.

With her lifetime conditions gone, trainer Milton Gaede set his sights on Lincoln's Speed Stakes for her stakes debut. She was installed as the 3-5 favorite in the field of nine and left no doubt who was in command of the sprinting ranks here, covering the 4 1/2 furlongs in 51.20 seconds. Her smallest margin of victory has been 6 3/4 lengths and her five career wins have come by a combined margin of 47 1/4 lengths.

Another Audible's regular rider, Beth Butler, took a bad spill Friday night and will be out until mid-June. Butler was aboard Wild Eyed Jake in a six-furlong race when the horse bore out over heels entering the first turn and clipped heels. Butler was thrown in front of the horse, had two other horses come over her, but appeared to avoid being stepped on. She suffered a broken nose, a deep laceration to her forehead, and a chipped vertebra. Following a weekend stay in the hospital, she was released Sunday and is back at the track with her stitches scheduled to be removed later this week.

With Butler out of action, Vicki Warhol made the trip from her base at Prairie Meadows to pick up rides Saturday and Sunday. Warhol was aboard Another Audible and picked up three other wins over the weekend from seven mounts.
