Anonymity to give two turns a shot in Zenyatta Stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. - Anonymity will stretch to two turns for the first time in her career on Sept. 29, when she takes on Ollie’s Candy and Secret Spice in the Grade 1 Zenyatta Stakes at 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita.
Richard Mandella trains Anonymity, who has three wins and five seconds from nine starts, all sprints.
“We’ve always wanted to try her long, and her races this year are looking like we should do that,” Mandella said. “She’s sitting back and finishing.”
Anonymity worked seven furlongs Sunday, a team drill Mandella acknowledged “was no great work.” He said another horse broke in with Anonymity and her workmate, and put the filly in a tight spot. Anonymity can be temperamental Mandella said, adding, “I’m not going to pay too much attention” to the work.
The redirection of Anonymity to the Zenyatta casts uncertainty on the complexion of the Grade 3 L.A. Woman Stakes, a 6 1/2-furlong sprint for fillies and mares at Santa Anita on Oct. 5. Multiple sprint stakes winner Danuska’s My Girl cannot run at Santa Anita for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, and Marley’s Freedom is turned out. Possible L.A. Woman starter Spiced Perfection, a Grade 1-winning sprint filly trained by Peter Miller, worked five furlongs in 59.20 Saturday at San Luis Rey Downs.
