Anna Meah sends out first starter in Sekhmet's Revenge
ARCADIA, Calif. – Anna Meah, who launched a stable in late summer, will have her first starter at Santa Anita on Thursday when Sekhmet’s Revenge runs in a $20,000 claimer for fillies and mares at a mile on turf.
The filly is part of Meah’s family. Her husband, David, a bloodstock agent and exercise rider in Southern California, owns Sekhmet’s Revenge with William Marasa.
Sekhmet’s Revenge was previously trained by Richard Baltas, for whom Anna Meah worked as an assistant trainer until this summer. Meah worked for Art Sherman when the stable was led by two-time Horse of the Year California Chrome.
Sekhmet’s Revenge was third in a $20,000 claimer at a mile on turf Oct. 4 in her final start for Baltas, finishing behind Peach Cove and Believe Indeed, both of whom are part of Thursday’s field.
Flavien Prat rode Sekhmet’s Revenge on Oct. 4 and has the mount on the 3-year-old filly Thursday.
“I think she’ll run huge,” said Anna Meah, 26. “She was good last time. She’s in with the ones that beat her. Flavien is back aboard and he knows her. We expect a big race.
“You only have one first runner.”
Meah has nine horses in training, and the stable is expected to grow in the next month through acquisitions at horses in training sales.
The stable could have its first stakes runner with Excellent Sunset in the $75,000 Kathryrn Crosby Stakes for fillies and mares at a mile on turf Nov. 9 at Del Mar. Excellent Sunset arrived in California earlier this month after finishing second in an allowance race Oct. 7 at Keeneland for trainer Brendan Walsh.
◗ Trainer Alfred Marquez has been fined $1,000 by Santa Anita stewards after one of his runners at the Del Mar summer meeting tested in excess of the permitted level of the analgesic bute. The overage was found in a post-race test taken from Wheresthemoneyjack, who won a seven-furlong race for $14,000 to $16,000 claimers in a 15-1 upset in the third race Aug. 18.
