Angelica Zapata three-peats in Nancy's Glitter

Angelica Zapata won the $75,000 Nancy’s Glitter Handicap at Calder Race Course for the third year in a row Saturday, splitting horses at the top of the stretch and scoring by four lengths over Swinger’s Party. It was another 9 3/4 lengths back to Centrique in third.

Angelica Zapata ($7.20) broke with the field in the one-mile race for fillies and mares and settled off the pace in sixth as Swinger’s Party led through an opening six furlongs in 1:12.48. Angelica Zapata saved ground along the rail down the backside, advanced between horses on the final turn, worked past Swinger’s Party in the stretch, then surged clear to cover the distance on a track upgraded to fast in 1:38.76.

Jesus Rios rode the winner for trainer Ron Pellegrini.

Angelica Zapata, who races for her co-breeder, Herman Van Den Broeck, was a nine-length winner of the Nancy’s Glitter in 2012 and a three-quarter-length winner of the race in 2013. Angelica Zapata, bred by Buck Pond Farm, is a 6-year-old by Sharp Humor.

Angelica Zapata went over $500,000 in earnings with the win Saturday, which was her 10th from 28 career starts. Her bankroll stands at $511,270.
