Anees hurt, out of stud service

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Anees, North America's champion 2-year-old in 1999, has been withdrawn from stud service after injuring himself in a paddock accident.

Mill Ridge Farm announced Tuesday that Anees injured his left front pastern Monday when he was turned out after the morning breeding session. The farm shipped Anees to Lexington's Hagyard Davidson McGee equine hospital, where the fracture was surgically repaired. The stallion remains at Hagyard, where his prognosis, according to Mill Ridge, is "guarded."

Anees is likely to miss the rest of the breeding season.

* E Dubai, a first-year stallion at Darley Stud, also is off the breeding roster temporarily at Darley's Kentucky division, Jonabell Farm. He developed a penile hematoma, caused by a broken blood vessel, on March 25.

"He is responding well to treatment," said Jimmy Bell, director of Darley, on Tuesday.
