However, he has mostly stepped out over the extended mile, a trip he just doesn’t quite seem to get. Back to 1200m, he’s a big player here, especially from a good gate. #12 Starry Starlies has drawn awkwardly but he has run nicely a couple of times this season. He can figure if he can get any sort of soft run. #6 Victory Duke debuts on the dirt. He has trialled OK on the surface and can hit the board. #10 World City has been hopelessly out of form, but he should be respected with a return to the dirt off this rating.   RACE 2: SHING YIP HANDICAP #3 Goldie Flanker has a terrific turn of foot but also gets well back in his races, so needs even luck to get into the finish. If he is allowed to wind up, he’ll finish over the top of these. #5 Elite Boy has run well at his two starts on dirt. He gets a kinder draw now and, with blinkers also going on, he will be hard to beat. #12 Silly Buddies is a chance back to this surface, especially from a better draw. 4 Hearts Keeper can never be dismissed over this course and distance with six wins and 14 top-four finishes from 32 starts. He deserves inclusion again.   RACE 3: SHING YIP HANDICAP #2 Elite Spirit keeps going off at big prices, but he has run well in all three of his runs over this course and distance since dropping down to Class 4. There’s no reason he can’t figure in the finish again. #1 Pakistan Baby drops to Class 4 for the second time this season. The first resulted in a short-head defeat over this track and trip behind Massive Move. He should be respected. #11 Noble De Boy has a wide gate but has drawn well and will be somewhere around the mark. #10 Beekely should be somewhere near the lead from gate four and he can stick around for some minor money.   RACE 4: WAI YIP HANDICAP #13 Remarkable performed strongly at Happy Valley last time out. The son of More Than Ready switches to the dirt for the first time and although he has an awkward gate, he should be hard to beat after his last run. #12 Mi Blanco has placed at his last two starts on this surface. The step up to 1800m shouldn’t be a problem and he shapes as the main danger. #6 Chater Thunder has won by narrow margins at his last two but he still shapes as though he has something in hand. He can win again. #3 Crown Avenue has won two from three over this course and distance and can’t be dismissed.   RACE 5: SHUI WO HANDICAP #6 Kirov improved up to 1650m for the first time last start. He still appears unexposed at a mile and he can figure here. #5 Amazing Feeling ran well enough last time. He has gate two and if he can take advantage of it, he’s at a mark where he can win again. #4 Imperial Concorde has been one of many horses to produce for new trainer Frankie Lor this season. He can’t be left out. #3 Golden Sleep pulled out an OK run from a wide gate last time out. He switches to the rail and that should give him place claims.   RACE 6: MUT WAH HANDICAP #14 Kiram switches to dirt for just the second time; the first time, he was still acclimatising so it should be forgotten. The son of Elusive City has been racing well enough and appears capable of getting a win before he drops down to Class 4. #10 Nuclear Power has placed at his last two runs on the surface. With the right run, he will be breaking through. #11 Gran Master has been slightly disappointing this season but has rarely performed poorly. He has a bad draw but it won’t take much for him to figure. #2 Big Bang Bong is improving and he will be breaking through soon.   RACE 7: HOI YUEN HANDICAP #5 Team Fortune returns to the dirt for the first time since June. He didn’t have the best of luck that day, but still performed strongly. Third-up, he shapes as the one they all have to beat. #3 Fight Hero is always a chance over this course and distance and from the inside gate, he’s going to be hard to toss. #7 Gunnison makes his debut here, having won two from two in Australia, including the G2 Todman Stakes. He has trialled well and he’s a chance, but it might be better to watch him first time out – especially with a rating of 86, very high for a three-year-old with only two starts under his belt. #10 Blocker Dee might need to get back into Class 3 company but he’s not without a hope here.   RACE 8: HUNG TO HANDICAP #5 Storm Signal makes his debut on dirt. The son of Foxwedge, out of a Fusaichi Pegasus mare, has run well in four starts to date and with Matthew Poon taking seven pounds off, he only has to carry 121 pounds. He’s capable of winning here. #6 Ugly Warrior and #4 Pick Number One have been two of the revelations of the first half of the season on this surface, both winning three times. Ugly Warrior has looked the more dynamic of the two, but he has gone up in the ratings significantly for his last win. Pick Number One looked flat last time out but still managed to win, and he has had a minor freshen since. Both are chances again. #11 Phantom Falcon can figure from the inside gate.
