DEL MAR, Calif. – Analyze It ran a near-perfect race in his debut Oct. 28 at Belmont Park. He stormed from the gate to dispute the pace, was always within a length of the front, and cruised under the wire more than six lengths clear.

The win has led Analyze It to be shipped across the United States for his stakes debut in Sunday’s Grade 3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes for 2-year-olds at a mile on turf at Del Mar. After the debut win, there are high hopes Analyze It can show further improvement, trainer Chad Brown said Friday.

“We expected him to run well, but I don’t think you could predict a first-time starter to do what he did,” Brown said. “He was very professional. The way he finished his race off was extremely impressive.

“Needless to say, we were very pleased.”

KEY CONTENDERS

Analyze It, by Point of Entry
Beyer: 90

◗ Analyze It, who races for William Lawrence, caught Brown by surprise in taking the early lead. He ran the opening quarter-mile in 23.41 seconds and drew off in early stretch.

“He showed a good ability to break from the gate in the mornings,” Brown said. “When I saw him contesting a solid pace, I was actually concerned. A tough thing for a firster to do is use that much energy early in the race.”

◗ For now, Analyze It will stay on turf.

“He’s given me the feel he’d be better on the turf,” Brown said. “You have to leave the door open a bit with a lightly raced horse. My opinion might change. Based on his pieces of work, he gives me the feel he’ll be better on turf.”

Armour Plate, by Into Mischief
Last 3 Beyers: 78-68-52

◗ There are no stakes winners among the 11 entrants in the $100,000 DeMille, although Armour Plate was third in the Zuma Beach Stakes at a mile on turf Oct. 9 at Santa Anita. Trained by Eddie Truman, Armour Plate is likely to race near the front.

Inscom, by Distorted Humor
Last 3 Beyers: 74-77-15

◗ Inscom was second by a nose to Pubilius Syrus in a maiden race at a mile on turf Sept. 30 at Santa Anita and later won a maiden race at a mile by 4 1/4 lengths at 1-2 on Oct. 27.

“He was probably the best horse the day that he got beat a nose,” trainer Simon Callaghan said. “Maybe the inexperience caught him out.

“He won in a good time. He’s the sort of horse that will mature. His pedigree says he should keep getting better.”

◗ Pubilius Syrus is part of the DeMille field. Trained by Vladimir Cerin, Pubilius Syrus has not run since his maiden win. He was pre-entered for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf on Nov. 3 at Del Mar, but was not selected for the race.
