SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Hoosier Philly, who returned to form with a victory in the Monomoy Girl Stakes at Ellis Park on June 17, worked a half-mile in 49.49 seconds Wednesday morning over Saratoga’s main track. She is preparing for a start in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks here on July 22.
Trainer Tom Amoss had regular rider Edgar Morales fly in Tuesday night to breeze the filly Wednesday morning.
“It was an easy half-mile work. She looked like herself, everything was as good as you’d want it to be,” Amoss said.
Hoosier Philly went 3 for 3 at age 2, but struggled in her first two starts at Fair Grounds this winter. Hoosier Philly underwent a myectomy to correct a breathing issue following her second start. It seemed to work as Hoosier Philly finished second to Taxed in the Black-Eyed Susan at Pimlico on May 19 before winning the Monomoy Girl by 3 1/2 lengths.

Amoss is taking a realistic view of Hoosier Philly’s victory at Ellis.
“As dominant as her race was I’d have to put an asterisk next to it,” Amoss said. “Ellis Park played to front-end speed and we were able to control everything in that race.”
