Ami's Mesa shows Oaks potential with Glorious Song win

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Ami’s Mesa emerged as an early contender for next season’s Woodbine Oaks with a strong closing kick to capture Saturday’s $144,900 Glorious Song Stakes at Woodbine. Trainer Josie Carroll said Sunday she had no firm plans for the filly’s next start but added that Ami’s Mesa likely will continue her training in Florida after the Woodbine meet concludes this Sunday.
“She’ll be heading down to Florida,” she said. “She’s only had two races. She’ll kick on.”
Ami’s Mesa is one of three impressive 2-year-olds sent out by Carroll and owner and breeder Ivan Dalos this season. Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes winner Gamble’s Ghost and Frost King Stakes winner Amis Gizmo combined with Ami’s Mesa to win seven of their nine starts at Woodbine in 2015, including five stakes wins.
Amis Gizmo, who is undefeated in three stakes starts this year, can make it four in a row in Saturday’s $125,000 Kingarvie Stakes, Carroll said. The Kingarvie will be Amis Gizmo’s first start around two turns.
“We definitely wanted to get him around two turns this year,” Carroll said. “That’s the reason for another race this year ... to get him around two turns and see how he handles it before next year.”
