HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Amigo will drop out of graded stakes company to serve as the favorite in Sunday’s $43,000 optional-claiming feature at 1 1/16 miles on the turf.
Amigo, a homebred son of Hard Spun owned by Arindel, finished fifth in the Grade 3 Miami Mile and seventh in the Grade 2 Mervin Muniz Memorial Handicap in his last two starts. Before that he finished a fast-closing second, beaten less than a length, when trying company similar to what he faces Sunday. He is trained by Ronny Werner.
Whisper On the Wind brings a four-race winning streak into the main event. Indian Guide, who had a three-race victory skein of his own snapped in his most recent start, is another key contender.
