Amerman named to Calif. board

Owner John Amerman was appointed to the California Horse Racing Board by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday.

Amerman, 74, of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., owns racehorses with his wife, Jerry. The couple has campaigned horses such as Balance, the winner of the Santa Anita Oaks earlier this year, and Adoration, the winner of the 2003 Breeders' Cup Distaff.

Amerman's appointment is subject to confirmation from the state Senate.
