Americium wins the 2016 La Senorita Stakes
Coady Photography Americium, shown winning the La Senorita Stakes at Retama in 2016, makes her first stakes start for new connections on Friday.

The owner-trainer team of M and M Racing and Karl Broberg is in its infancy, but on Friday night at Evangeline Downs they could reach a milestone with Americium. She has a chance to give the connections their first stakes win together in the $75,000 Spotted Horse.

Adore, who is Grade 2-placed, could go favored in the Spotted Horse, a one-mile race for fillies and mares that also drew seven-time stakes winner Pacific Pink and six-time stakes winner Mr. Al’s Gal. Americium, who is cross-entered in a Saturday allowance at Lone Star Park, is part of a field of seven at Evangeline. The Spotted Horse will share a card with the $50,000 Acadiana for 3-year-old fillies bred in Louisiana.

Mike and Mickala Sisk launched M and M Racing in November 2016, and in April of this year the couple won the leading owner title at Oaklawn Park. Robertino Diodoro is the primary trainer for M and M Racing, while Broberg, the leading trainer at Evangeline, is new to the team, which includes racing manager Cody Autrey. The Sisks and Broberg have gone 4 for 12 with their starters together, for a 33 percent win rate through Tuesday.

“[Mike] loves the competitive aspect of racing, and all that entails,” Broberg said. “I know he’s given me an opportunity that trainers seldom get in the current atmosphere of racing, which is not only new clientele, but new clientele that’s willing to get the right kind of horses in your barn.”

The Sisks claimed Americium for $30,000 out of her last start June 1 at Lone Star, where she finished second by a neck in the optional-claiming turf route and was placed first. Prior to that race, Americium, a 4-year-old by Brilliant Speed who was a stakes winner at 2, won back-to-back starts on the dirt at Lone Star.

Gerard Melancon has the mount from post 7.

Americium could get a tracking trip off Adore, who will break from the rail one start after romping by eight lengths in a Lone Star allowance May 5. She set the pace in the mile race at 3-5. Evangeline leading rider Tim Thornton has the mount for Winchell Thoroughbreds and trainer Steve Asmussen.

Mr. Al’s Gal won the $75,000 Louisiana Legends Distaff in her last start May 26 at Evangeline, wiring the field as the late-running Pacific Pink closed for third. Both horses will be leaving the statebred ranks behind, but have won over open company. Diego Saenz will ride Mr. Al’s Gal for Brittlyn Stable and trainer Justin Jeansonne, while Colby Hernandez has the mount on Pacific Pink for owner Keith Plaisance and trainer Eddie Johnston.

The Acadiana, which will be run over seven furlongs, is restricted to non-winners of a stakes, and the four-time stakes-placed Yes Gorgeous rates as the most accomplished member of the eight-horse field. She finished second last out in the $75,000 Equine Sales Oaks on May 4 at Evangeline. Earlier in her career, Yes Gorgeous was a 15 3/4-length maiden special weight winner at Delta Downs. Saenz has the mount for owner-trainer Scott Gelner.

Fleet Halo is looking for her third straight win. She took allowance races on May 4 at Lone Star and on June 6 at Louisiana Downs. Kerwin Clark has the mount for trainer Jason Grudzien.
