American Pharoah will parade for fans Saturday

ARCADIA, Calif. – Triple Crown hero American Pharoah will be paraded through the paddock and on the racetrack between races at Santa Anita on Saturday.
American Pharoah is scheduled to parade on the racetrack between the seventh and eighth races on a 10-race program that begins at 1 p.m. Pacific. American Pharoah will start his tour in the paddock at approximately 4:30 p.m. He will be paraded through the walking ring and then through the tunnel onto the racetrack.
On the track, American Pharoah will be walked in front of the clubhouse and into the winner’s circle for a brief ceremony before being taken back to trainer Bob Baffert’s stable in front of the grandstand.
“People will get a good look at him,” Baffert said.
Owned by Ahmed Zayat, American Pharoah returned to Santa Anita on June 18 and has been galloping in recent days.
Baffert had mentioned the possibility of working American Pharoah between races Saturday but said this week that the colt is only galloping at this stage of his training.
“He looks healthy,” Baffert said. “We’re getting his weight back. He was lighter, and that’s normal.”
Baffert said on Thursday that he has no race plans for American Pharoah.
“Once I start breezing, I’ll know more,” he said.
Closing day Sunday
Sunday is the final day of the spring-summer meeting at Santa Anita, a program highlighted by the $150,000 San Juan Capistrano Stakes at about 1 3/4 miles on turf. First post time is 1 p.m.
The Los Alamitos two-week summer meeting begins Thursday. The highlight of the meeting is the $350,000 Los Alamitos Derby at 1 1/8 miles on July 4. The favorite for the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Derby is expected to be Kentuckian, who won the Grade 3 Laz Barrera Stakes on May 10. On Thursday at Santa Anita, Kentuckian worked six furlongs in 1:11 under jockey Mike Smith.
